Meet DELLTA Board Members

Erin Bryan, Ed.D., began teaching ESL in 2015. She earned a Masters in Teaching English as a Second Language from the University of Delaware in 2019 and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Wilmington University in 2024. Her dissertation focuses on literacy development for MLLs at the secondary level. Dr. Bryan is proud to serve Lake Forest’s MLLs at Chipman Middle School and believes in a holistic, whole-child approach to MLLs’ success.

Deborah Giles is a multilingual learner specialist at Cape Henlopen High School, supporting MLs in English Language Arts and secondary literacy interventions. Prior to working for CHHS, Deborah worked as a middle school ML teacher in Milford, Delaware, and elementary and middle school ESL teacher in the Kennett Consolidated School District in Pennsylvania. She is thrilled to be a part of a statewide organization dedicated to ML student advocacy.

Nigel Caplan, Ed.D., is an Associate Professor and Manager of Graduate Programs and Online Learning at the University of Delaware English Language Institute. Nigel teaches undergraduate and graduate ESL classes, as well as courses in the MA TESL degree. He coordinates UD's Additional Certification in ESL/Bilingual (ACE) program and has facilitated the English Learner Summer Institute since 2012.

Sugely Solano, Ed.D., is a long-time advocate of multilingual learners in Delaware. She works closely with families, educators, and administrators to support English learners, immersion students, and world language programming in Brandywine School District. Her recent doctoral dissertation Using Guidance and Data to Inform the Instruction of MLLs focues on discussing langauge proficiency milestones and celebrating language growth.
