DE EL Institute Goes Online

Hi DELLTA Members & Friends, please see this communication from UofD Dr. Caplan,

"Dear colleagues,

I hope this finds you well and amidst all the upheaval.

UD has moved all summer courses online, which means that the annual tradition of the ELL Summer Institute will, for the first time in a decade, not take place in Dover. However, it will happen! Online! I am redesigning the course using a mixture of synchronous and asynchronous components. It will now run in UD's 5-week summer session, June 8 - July 10, with the live Zoom sessions scheduled around districts' calendars.

Since this is very much an experiment that I'm creating on the fly, I would like to limit the number of participants. Priority will be given to ACE teachers and for-credit participants. However, I can offer about 10 seats to teachers who would like to take the course for free for professional development clock hours. They will have access to all the instructional materials, and I will respond to their online work, but they won't do the major written assignments, and they won't earn UD credit.

Information about the course and PDMS codes can be found here: https://sites.udel.edu/ell/

Please share this link with colleagues in your district who may be interested.

In the meantime, we are recruiting teachers for the 6th Additional Certification in ESL cohort, to start in the fall. This program will likely be all or mostly online. More information and registration forms at http://sites.udel.edu/aceteach

Thank you for your help and for all you do to support our EL students and their teachers. If there is anything we can do at the ELI to support you and your schools, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Best wishes,

Nigel"
